How about "donate to author" buttons?

Hello.

I would like to know what do you authors and normal users think about allowing authors to post donation buttons on their listing page?

A button that would say "donate to this author" and when button is clicked the visitor can send a donation of any amount to the listing author by paypal or by other additional payment options.

Authors would be able to add a paypal account in their profile settings.


This would not affect free downloading in any way, users would still be able to download files for free, but I am thinking that some authors might get motivated by donations.

What are your thoughts about this?

I think its a great idea and authors will be motivated also. In addition to this, there will be a facility for some users who would like to buy the rights and use the items posted for their personal or commercial use.

I appreciate your step to add such a good value to existing system and hope to see such buttons soon! ;-)

I echo PZV comment.

I think it would be a good idea, as long as it's a donate program. What makes Photoshop files/ffiles unique, it's free. I also think more designers would step it up a little.

I haven't forgot about the donation buttons yet, I will add them just that I got caught with some other things.

I added the "donate to author" buttons on ffiles.com today, authors can set their paypal or moneybookers email under "my profile" http://www.ffiles.com/my_account_edit.html
Authors can also setup a note that will appear on donation page, this note can contain other payment instructions like "I also accept e-gold, my account is blabla".

The users that want to make a donation will see this button next to "download".
